Caffè Letterari are fascinating places full of history that still now can be found in many Italian cities. Starting in 1800, they represented the preferred meeting place for intellectuals who gathered to combine the comfort of coffee with the stimulus of discussions on poetry, literature, and art.
Today, in Seattle, my Caffè Letterario wishes to recreate the atmosphere of socialization, study, cultural growth, and friendship between people who love Italy and want to learn more about its language and culture.
My name is Cecilia Strettoi and I am an Italian language and literature instructor. Over the past two decades I have sought to bring the language, literature, and culture of my homeland to Seattle, offering my students the most authentic and complex picture of Italy.
I was born and raised in Pisa, Tuscany, where I earned a master’s degree in Italian Literature. My graduate studies focused on teaching Italian as a second language. My teaching positions have included 14 years at the University of Washington and most recently at Seattle Colleges. My experience spans from individual lessons to groups classes across all levels of proficiency. Teaching and learning are two great adventures that allow me to connect with many others. I am grateful to all those I have met through my work and I look forward to continuing teaching what I love.

Benvenuti! The lessons I offer have an emphasis on an interactive experience with highly personalized material.
The motivation to learn Italian will vary for everyone; some may have professional motives, others may be planning a trip to Italy, and some may be completely fluent but still find joy discussing literature. Understanding your intentions and identifying your learning style, will assist me to create the material and course structure to help you reach your goals. This is especially valuable when one is preparing to take a proficiency exam. Tailoring each lesson has allowed me to have a huge diversity in age and experience amongst those with whom I’ve worked.
Beside all levels of Italian language, I offer workshops on cross cultural orientation to help Americans immerse themselves into an Italian environment, as well as Italians who just moved to the US.
All lessons are available both online or in-person in northeast Seattle.

translations
In recent years, I have began to translate documents related to the application for the Italian citizenship. I have submitted translations to the Italian Consulate of San Francisco and to other Italian consulates in the US and in Europe.
The price for the translations of your documents depends on how long they are, how legible they are, and the total number of documents. Please contact me with details and I will provide you with a quote. There is a minimum price of $50 when translating only one document.
